A self introduction for kids should be short enough to remember and simple enough to say without fear. A Class 1 child needs only four or five tiny sentences. A Class 8 student can talk for about half a minute and add a hobby or a dream.
This page has English samples of a kids self introduction for each class group, a 10 lines version, a fill in worksheet, and practical tips for parents and teachers. Older students in senior school and college will find better fits on the self introduction for students page.

What to include in a self introduction for kids in English
Children do best with a fixed order. Once they know the order, they can change the details every time.
| Part | Say this | For example |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Greeting | Good morning or hello | "Good morning, teacher." |
| 2. Name | First name, maybe full name | "My name is Riya." |
| 3. Age and class | How old, which class | "I am six years old. I study in Class 1." |
| 4. Family or home | Who they live with or where | "I live with my mummy, papa and my dog." |
| 5. Likes | Subject, colour, food or game | "I like to draw with crayons." |
| 6. Dream | What they want to be | "I want to be a doctor." |
| 7. Ending | Say thank you | "Thank you." |
For Class 1 and 2, parts 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7 are enough.

How to introduce yourself in school on the first day
Self introduction in school often happens when the school year begins or when a child joins a new school. A few habits help a lot:
- Stand straight and look at the class. Looking at the teacher alone is fine for younger children.
- Say your name slowly. It is the one thing everyone needs to hear.
- Smile at the end. It tells the class you are friendly.
- If you forget a line, skip it. Nobody knows what you planned to say.
- For a new school, say where you came from. It gives classmates a question to ask you at lunch.
Fill in worksheet for kids
Print or copy this onto a page and let your child fill the blanks. Then they read it aloud. It works well for self introduction in English for school students in Class 1 to 4.
Worksheet: all about me
Good morning. My name is ________.
I am ________ years old.
I study in Class ________.
I live in ________ with ________.
My favourite subject is ________.
My favourite game is ________.
I like to eat ________.
When I grow up, I want to be ________.
Thank you.
Tips for parents: practise without pressure
- Write the introduction together using your child's own words, not adult phrases.
- Say it once a day for three or four days, at dinner or before bed.
- Let them practise in front of a soft toy, then a sibling, then the whole family.
- Praise the effort, not perfect English.
- On the morning of the activity, practise only once. Too much repetition makes children anxious.
From self introduction to biography writing
Around Class 5 to Class 8, schools often move from talking about yourself to writing about someone else. Biography writing for class 5, class 7 or class 8 usually means a one page piece on a famous person or a family member, covering early life, work, achievements and why they inspire you. The how to write a biography page explains the steps, while the biography examples page has model pieces your child can read first.

Frequently asked questions
How many lines should a child's self introduction have?
For Class 1 and 2, four to six short lines are enough. Class 3 to 5 can manage six to eight lines, and Class 6 to 8 can speak for about thirty to forty five seconds.
What should a Class 1 child say in a self introduction?
A greeting, name, age, class, one thing they like and thank you. Keep each sentence to five or six words so the child can say it easily.
Should my child say their full name?
First name is enough for most class activities. If the teacher asks for full names, add the surname once at the start.
My child is shy. How can I help?
Practise at home in a playful way, maybe with a toy as the audience. Keep the introduction very short so it feels easy. Remind them that it is fine to skip a line if they forget.
Can kids use the same self introduction every year?
The order can stay the same, but the details should change as they grow. A new class, new hobbies and new friends keep it fresh and true.
How is a self introduction different from a biography for kids?
A self introduction is about yourself and is usually spoken. A biography is written about another person, usually someone famous or admired, and covers their life story.
