A self introduction in English does not need difficult words. It needs short, correct sentences in a clear order, said slowly enough to be understood. If English is your second or third language, that is an advantage: simple English sounds confident.
This page gives you ready sentence patterns, a self introduction in English in 10 lines, paragraph samples for everyday situations, and the small grammar errors that make an otherwise good introduction sound wrong. How to self introduction in English: keep it simple
People search for how to self introduction in English because they worry their English is not good enough. The fix is not better vocabulary. It is fewer, cleaner sentences. Each line should carry one idea: your name, your city, your studies, your work, one interest, one goal.
Use the present tense for what is true now ("I work", "I live"), the past tense for what is finished ("I completed", "I worked"), and "I want to" or "I hope to" for the future. Most mistakes in spoken introductions come from mixing these three.
Speak a little slower than you normally do. Pause after your name and at the end of each sentence. A simple self introduction in English said calmly sounds far better than a fast one full of fancy phrases.

Grammar mistakes in English introductions and how to fix them
These errors are very common and easy to correct. Fixing them makes your introduction sound instantly more natural.
| Wrong | Right | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Myself Arjun. | I am Arjun. | "Myself" cannot be the subject of a sentence. |
| I am having two years experience. | I have two years of experience. | "Have" here is a state, not an action, so no "-ing". |
| I did my graduation in B.Com. | I completed my B.Com. | Graduation and B.Com mean the same here. |
| I am belonging to Patna. | I am from Patna. | "Belong" is rarely used in "-ing" form. |
| My father is doing business. | My father runs a business. | "Runs" is the natural verb for owning a business. |
| I passed out from college last year. | I graduated from college last year. | "Passed out" also means fainting in global English. |
| My hobbies are reading books, listening music. | I like reading and listening to music. | "Listen" needs "to", and a sentence sounds warmer than a list. |
Tips to say it fluently
- Record yourself. Listen back once. You will hear where you rush or repeat "basically" and "actually".
- Stress the important words. Your name, your role and your goal should be slightly louder and slower.
- Use linking phrases. "Right now", "before that", "outside work" and "in the future" help the listener follow you.
- Do not translate in your head. Practise until each sentence comes out as a whole, not word by word.
- It is fine to have an accent. Clear is the goal, not foreign-sounding.

Frequently asked questions
How can I give a simple self introduction in English?
Use one short sentence each for your name, city, studies or work, one interest and one goal. Say them in that order and end with thank you. That is enough for most everyday situations.
Is "myself" wrong in an introduction?
Yes, as an opening it is wrong. Say "I am" or "My name is" followed by your name. "Myself" is used only when the subject and object are the same person, as in "I prepared myself".
How many lines should my English self introduction have?
Around 8 to 12 short lines works for most spoken settings. That takes about 45 seconds to a minute. Written assignments may ask for exactly 10 lines.
Should I mention my age and family?
Only if the setting is personal, such as a class, a course or a community group. In interviews and work meetings, skip age and family unless asked.
My English is weak. Will that hurt me?
Simple, correct English is always acceptable. Listeners judge clarity and confidence more than vocabulary. Practise a short version until you can say it smoothly.
What is the best self introduction in English for an interview?
One that links your background and strengths to the job, with a real example, in about a minute. Our interview guide has samples and a generator for this.
